Get away to nature
Eagle Valley is a little-disturbed slice of heaven in northern Carroll County.
To get there from Hillsville go 6 miles east to Dugspur, then go north across Double Cabin Road, follow the Ocala Road. When you get to Eagle Heaven Heights you're almost there!
A privacy gate on the one-lane road out the ridge insures that no one will bother you; that is if they could even find you!
At this point, Big Reed Island Creek is really the size of a river.
There's plenty of fish in the creek, from small-mount bass to trout. The creek acts as a natural air-conditioner and keeps it cool in the summertime.
Laurel Mountain
On the banks of Crooked Creek in southwestern Virginia and on
the ridges overlooking the valley, this community has mostly log cabins and other mountain homes. Two common areas directly on the creek give every owner access to the creek at two points, about a mile apart both up and downstream. Fishing, wading, swimming, canoeing, and picnicking are popular, especially on those summer days when it's hot other places.

Crooked Creek is a very large stream, but not very deep.
You can canoe all the way to the New River from here. The stream is stocked, and you can catch a good-sized fish with the right bait. A wade or swim in the creek is the perfect cool off on a hot summer day.

From the ridge tops, you can see ridge after ridge stretching far in the distance.
You can see why they named these mountains the "Blue Ridge." They're very blue. The air is clean and the water is clear. It's cooler here in the summer, too. With an elevation of 2,400 feet, Laurel Mountain is the place to get away to.
